Some common questions…
What is a doula?
According to Dr. Christine Morton, author of the book Birth Ambassadors, a birth doula is a companion who supports a birthing person during labor and birth. Doulas are trained to provide one-on-one care, inform families, and support them emotionally and physically.
When do you hire a doula?
It’s a good idea to look for a doula as soon as possible (roughly 4-6 months before your due date). This allows for you and your doula to get to know each other and discuss your plans for pregnancy, labor, and birth.
Why should I hire a doula?
A doula is there to support you during your pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum, both physically & emotionally. Your doula will help you make informed decisions and empower you & your partner for the birth that you desire.
Does the doula replace the partner?
NO! A doula is there to support both you & your partner.
How do I choose a doula that is best for me?
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your doula. Every doula is different and brings their own personality, experience, and philosophy. Figure out who resonates with you and has similar ideals.
What is NOT included in doula support?
A doula does not make decisions for you. Doulas are not medical professionals & cannot diagnose medical conditions.
